2011 BMW 328
Paintwork, Projector Retrofit, Quad Retrofit, Switchback Halos/Strips
I don’t get many BMW headlight builds. I assume they have their headlight modding needs covered by someone out there. But I was presented a mighty tempting offer to design and build a headlight set for a 2011 BMW 3 Series (E90/E91) and I took it. I had a blank canvas to do whatever I wanted to best match the client’s vehicle, a matte black Bimmer with teal accents.
The stock headlights on the car and then the rear reflector headlights disassembled:
I decided that I wanted to retain the dual halo style of the BMW but using better brighter halo products and ditching the diffuser ring style OEM halos. I used the brand-new-at-the-time Smoke Rings to make the new halos not stand out or contrast when they were not on. Fun fact: this was the first publicized build using that product. The original diffuser rings would be retained and painted accent teal to add some subtle color to the build. I knew that the build was going to be a quad retrofit and I decided to use Morimoto’s MLED LED Projector Assembly paired with the HBLED, which is a dedicated high beam LED spot projector. It’s quite a powerful combination. I painted everything matte black and began reassembling:
Once they were reassembled, they were absolutely gorgeous but very difficult to photograph!
When the switchback halos are activated, the build takes on a whole new life. The white is beautiful bright pure white and the turn signal amber looks very refreshing.
The output is extremely impressive too! Love LED projectors!
